When Botox is injected into specific facial muscles, it temporarily blocks the signals from the nerves to those muscles. This means the muscles can’t contract as strongly, which smooths out lines and wrinkles caused by repeated expressions like frowning or squinting.

The treatment only works in the area injected, leaving the rest of your face to move naturally. The result is a softer, fresher look without changing your expressions.

Botox is a purified protein that’s used to temporarily relax specific muscles. When tiny amounts are carefully injected, it softens the movement that causes fine lines and wrinkles leaving the skin looking smoother and more refreshed.

It’s a quick, non-surgical treatment that has been safely used in aesthetics and medicine for many years. Results look natural when placed precisely, and the aim is always to enhance your features rather than change the way you look.

Like any medical treatment, Botox can have some mild side effects, but these are usually temporary and settle within a few days. The most common ones include:

• A little redness, swelling, or bruising where the injections were placed

• A mild headache after treatment

• A feeling of tightness or heaviness in the area (this settles as the product begins to work)

Serious side effects are very rare when treatment is carried out by a qualified medical professional. Before your appointment, we’ll go through your medical history and explain everything in detail so you feel confident and fully informed.

One of the great things about Botox is that there’s very little to no downtime. Most people carry on with their day straight after treatment.

You may notice a bit of redness or small bumps at the injection sites, these usually settle within an hour or so. Occasionally, mild bruising can appear, which fades in a few days.

We just advise avoiding strenuous exercise, alcohol, and rubbing the treated area for the first 24 hours to help you get the best results.

Before treatment:

• Avoid alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, and supplements such as fish oils, vitamin E, or ginkgo for 24–48 hours (unless prescribed by your doctor), as they can increase the risk of bruising.

• Try to come to your appointment without heavy makeup on the treatment area.

After treatment:

• Avoid touching or rubbing the treated area for at least 4 hours.

• Stay upright for 4 hours (no lying flat).

• Skip strenuous exercise, gym sessions, or heavy lifting for 24 hours.

• Avoid sunbeds, saunas, and hot tubs for 24–48 hours, as heat can increase swelling and bruising.

• No alcohol for the first 24 hours.

These simple steps help your results settle smoothly and reduce the risk of unwanted side effects

Everyone’s skin and wrinkle patterns are different, so results are always individual. This is why your treatment plan will be fully discussed during your consultation so you know exactly what to expect.

With Botox, you’ll usually see results from your first session. After your initial treatment, a review appointment is booked two weeks later to check how the Botox has settled. If a top-up is needed, this can be given at the nurse’s discretion and it’s included in your treatment price.

Botox typically lasts around 12 weeks, but it works in stages. You’ll notice peak results around 8–10 weeks, and then the effects gradually wear off as movement slowly returns. You won’t stay “frozen” for the entire 12 weeks instead, results soften naturally over time until your next treatment is due.

Botox can be a great option if you’re looking to soften lines caused by repeated facial expressions like frowning, squinting, or raising your eyebrows. It’s most commonly used to treat areas such as the forehead, frown lines, and crow’s feet.

You may be a good candidate if:

• You’re over 18 and in good general health

• You have lines or wrinkles that bother you and want a fresher, more relaxed look

• You have realistic expectations, Botox softens movement and smooths lines, but it won’t completely change your appearance
